Short-Circuit Calculation Record (Excel)
Free download · Excel (.xlsx)
Short-circuit studies generate large volumes of data that must be recorded systematically for design verification and equipment selection. This Excel template provides a structured short-circuit calculation record with columns for Node/Bus Reference, Nominal Voltage (kV), System Configuration (radial/ring/mesh), Source Resistance and Reactance (mΩ), Total Impedance (mΩ), X/R Ratio, Initial Symmetrical Short-Circuit Current Ik" (kA), Peak Short-Circuit Current ip (kA), Breaking Current Ib (kA), Thermal Equivalent Current Ith (kA), Equipment Short-Circuit Rating (kA), Prospective-to-Rated Ratio, Pass/Fail Status, IEC 60909 Clause Reference, and Notes. Conditional formatting flags any node where the prospective fault current exceeds the equipment rating. Use with ECalPro's short-circuit calculator for IEC 60909-0:2016 compliant fault level analysis.

Frequently Asked Questions
What fault current types does this record?
The template records initial symmetrical (Ik"), peak (ip), breaking (Ib), and thermal equivalent (Ith) short-circuit currents per IEC 60909-0:2016. These are the four values needed for equipment selection and verification.
Can I use this for both 3-phase and 1-phase faults?
The default layout is for 3-phase symmetrical faults, which typically give the highest fault current. Add a System Type column for single-phase or line-to-line studies if required for your protection coordination.
Does this template calculate fault currents?
This is a record template, not a calculation tool. Use ECalPro's short-circuit calculator for IEC 60909-0 compliant fault current calculations, then transfer the results to this record for documentation.
