Insulation Resistance Test Record (Excel)
Free download · Excel (.xlsx)
Insulation resistance testing is a mandatory part of electrical installation verification and periodic inspection. This Excel template provides a structured IR test record with columns for Circuit Reference, Description, Switchboard, Nominal Voltage (V), Test Voltage (V DC), L1-N (MΩ), L2-N (MΩ), L3-N (MΩ), L1-E (MΩ), L2-E (MΩ), L3-E (MΩ), N-E (MΩ), Minimum Acceptable Value (MΩ), Pass/Fail Status, Ambient Temperature (°C), Humidity (%), Instrument Make and Model, Calibration Date, Date Tested, and Tested By. Conditional formatting highlights any reading below the minimum acceptable value (1 MΩ for circuits up to 500V per IEC 60364-6 and BS 7671 Table 6A). Temperature and humidity columns enable correction for environmental conditions and trend analysis between periodic inspections.

Frequently Asked Questions
What test voltage should I use?
Per IEC 60364-6 and BS 7671: 250V DC for SELV/PELV circuits, 500V DC for circuits up to 500V (most LV installations), 1000V DC for circuits between 500V and 1000V. The template includes a test voltage column for each circuit.
What is the minimum acceptable insulation resistance?
Per IEC 60364-6 Table 6A and BS 7671: 0.25 MΩ for SELV circuits, 0.5 MΩ for circuits up to 50V, 1 MΩ for circuits up to 500V, 1 MΩ for circuits up to 1000V. Values below these indicate potential insulation breakdown.
Why record temperature and humidity?
Insulation resistance is affected by ambient temperature and humidity. Recording these conditions allows meaningful comparison between periodic inspections — a drop in IR at the same temperature may indicate genuine insulation degradation rather than environmental variation.
