Cable Installation Inspection Checklist — IEC 60364 / BS 7671

Free download · A4 (210 × 297mm)

Poor cable installation is the root cause of premature insulation failure, hot joints, and fire risk. This A4 checklist provides eight structured inspection sections specifically referenced to IEC 60364-5-52 and BS 7671: Cable Route Verification (against design drawings), Minimum Bend Radius Check (per manufacturer and IEC 60364-5-52 Clause 522.8), Cable Support and Spacing (Table 4A of BS 7671 On-Site Guide), Fire Barrier Penetration sealing (Regulation 527.2), Termination and Gland Inspection (correct size, earth continuity), Cable Labelling (Regulation 514), Insulation Pre-Test (500V DC megger before energisation), and Continuity Check. Each item includes pass/fail/NA checkboxes and a measured value field where applicable. Print one per cable run or per area for systematic quality assurance.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does this differ from the existing cable installation checklist?

This version includes specific IEC 60364-5-52 and BS 7671 clause references for each inspection item and adds fire barrier penetration and minimum bend radius checks as separate sections. The existing checklist covers a broader multi-standard scope.

Should I use one checklist per cable or per area?

For critical circuits (fire systems, emergency lighting), use one per cable. For general power and lighting runs in the same area, one checklist per area is practical. Always include cable tag references.

What test voltage should I use for the insulation pre-test?

500V DC for circuits up to 500V (most LV installations). 1000V DC for 500-1000V circuits. Minimum acceptable insulation resistance is 1 MΩ per BS 7671 Table 6A and IEC 60364-6 Table 6A.
