Voltage Drop Calculation Record (Excel)

Free download · Excel (.xlsx)

This Excel template documents voltage drop calculations for electrical circuits in a structured, audit-ready format. Columns include: Circuit Reference, From/To Location, Cable Type, Size (mm²), Length (m), Design Current (A), Power Factor, Resistance (mΩ/m), Reactance (mΩ/m), Single-Phase/Three-Phase, Calculated Voltage Drop (V), Voltage Drop (%), Limit per Standard (%), and Pass/Fail status. The template includes the three-phase voltage drop formula √3·I·(R·cosφ + X·sinφ)·L and single-phase formula 2·I·(R·cosφ + X·sinφ)·L as cell formulas, so you can enter cable parameters and get instant results. Conditional formatting highlights circuits exceeding IEC 60364-5-52 limits: 3% for lighting, 5% for other circuits. Use alongside ECalPro's voltage drop calculator for detailed multi-standard analysis.

Frequently Asked Questions

What voltage drop formula does this template use?

Three-phase: Vd = √3 × I × (R·cosφ + X·sinφ) × L. Single-phase: Vd = 2 × I × (R·cosφ + X·sinφ) × L. Both formulas are embedded as Excel cell formulas — enter cable parameters and get instant results.

What are the IEC 60364-5-52 voltage drop limits?

IEC 60364-5-52 recommends maximum 3% for lighting circuits and 5% for other circuits. BS 7671 follows the same limits in Appendix 4. NEC provides informational guidance of 3% branch circuit, 5% total. The template includes all three standards' limits.

Can I add more circuits to this template?

Yes. Copy any data row to add more circuits — the formulas copy automatically. The template supports unlimited circuits. For projects with 50+ circuits, use ECalPro's batch calculation feature for automated results.

Do I need cable R and X values to use this template?

Yes. Resistance (R) and reactance (X) per metre values are needed for accurate results. These come from cable manufacturer data or standard tables (IEC 60364 Table B.52, BS 7671 Table 4D4B, AS/NZS 3008 Table 30/35). ECalPro's calculator includes built-in cable data for all standards.
